Start Fresh for Best Results

Before setting up your Fridge Friend, it’s a great idea to give your fridge a fresh start! A quick cleanout helps remove any expired or forgotten items, ensuring you get the most out of your new system. Wipe down the shelves, check for old produce, and make room for a more organised and efficient fridge.

For the best experience, we recommend installing Fridge Friend after your next grocery shop. This way, you’ll start with fresh produce that can be properly monitored from day one—rather than older items already on their way out. A well-organised, clean fridge sets the stage for less waste, longer-lasting food, and smarter shopping habits!

Eco-Friendly Fridge Cleaning Tips

1. Use Natural Cleaners – Skip the harsh chemicals and make a simple, non-toxic cleaner by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water. For tougher stains, sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth and scrub gently.

2. Avoid Disposable Wipes – Instead of single-use wipes, use paper towels, or reusable cloths that can be washed and reused.

3. Clean the Seals—Wipe down the rubber door seals with vinegar to remove grime and ensure a tight seal, which helps improve energy efficiency.

4. Compost Old Food—If possible, compost expired or spoiled produce instead of tossing it in the bin to reduce landfill waste.

A clean, fresh fridge makes organising easier and helps your Fridge Friend work more effectively—giving your groceries the longest shelf life possible while cutting down on waste!

Setup

Please be sure to give your Fridge Friend a good shake before you place in the microwave or fridge as the mineral may have settled during transport

Activation: Once you have removed your Fridge Friend/s from recycled packaging (Not the green or white filter casing) place it on a paper towel in your microwave. 

Microwave for no more than 15 seconds only (otherwise, damage may occur). Time based on a 1,000-watt microwave oven. 

If you have a Combi-Microwave without a turntable, only microwave for 10 seconds.

If you have more than one Fridge Friend, please microwave separately and use a fresh paper towel each time, as excess moisture may damage the filter. 

Or you can place your Fridge Friend/s in a conventional oven at a low temperature of 60C - 70C, 140-160F for up to 30 minutes.

Or you can place your Fridge Friends in direct sunlight for at least 3 hours.

Allow your Fridge Friend to cool down to room temperature, which may take 15 minutes or longer. 

Once cooled, move to the following steps.

Installation:

Please be sure to give your Fridge Friend a good shake before you place in the fridge as the mineral may have settled during transport.

Step 1: If you'd like, you can place your Fridge Friend in your fridge using the supplied Velcro tape. You can also place It free-standing. Ensure your Fridge Friend has plenty of airflow around it. If you are installing more than one, we suggest one in the upper part of the fridge and one in the crisper drawer.

Step 2. Over the coming week (The mineral takes up to 48 hours to trigger), you'll notice fewer odours. This indicates the filter is working by absorbing odours created by ripening fruit, vegetables and other produce in your fridge. 

Step 3. During this time, the filter also absorbs ethylene gas, the gas that moderates the ripening of fruit & vegetables. Too much ethylene and the ripening process is sped up. 

Monthly Maintenance 

Once a month (we'll send you a reminder email), remove your Fridge Friend, give it a good shake to spread the mineral and place it on a paper towel in your microwave. 

Microwave for no more than 20 seconds only (otherwise, damage may occur). Time based on a 1,000-watt microwave oven.  

If you have a Combi-Microwave without a turntable, only microwave for 10 seconds.

Alternatively, you can place your Fridge Friend/s in a conventional oven at a low temperature of 60C—70C, 140-160F for up to 30 minutes.

More than one Fridge Friend:

If you have more than one Fridge Friend, please microwave separately and use a fresh paper towel each time as excess moisture may damage the filter.

No Microwave, No Problem:

You can place your Fridge Friend/s in a conventional oven at a low temperature of 60C - 70C, 140-160F for up to 30 minutes.

Allow your Fridge Friend to cool down to room temperature, which may take 10 minutes or longer. 

Once cooled, replace your Fridge Friend/s in your Fridge.

Monthly maintenance will clean and reset the filter for the next 30 days and ensure optimal performance for at least three years.

Under everyday use and care, your Fridge Friend will last three years or more.

Great question! To get the most out of your Fridge Friend®, here’s what we recommend:

  1. If you have one Fridge Friend, place it where most of your fresh produce is—usually in the crisper drawer.

  2. If you have two Fridge Friends, put one in the crisper drawer and the other in the main fridge compartment for even better coverage.

  3. If you have three or more Fridge Friends, put one in each crisper drawer, another in the main fridge compartment and one in the freezer.

Wherever you place it, make sure your Fridge Friend® has plenty of airflow around it—avoid covering it up with produce or other items.

Modern fridges tend to have great airflow, so placement isn’t super critical. That said, keeping Fridge Friend® close to your fresh produce will give you the best results.

Orders are usually processed within 2-3 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) of receiving your order and will be delivered by Australia Post, so your parcels will be safe every step of the way. You will receive an email notification when your order has shipped.

You can track your delivery using the tracking code emailed to you once we have lodged your delivery.

Shipping depends on location but usually takes 4-7 business days for Australia and New Zealand and up to 15 business days elsewhere.
